I really love…

The customized mailing labels I ordered for the Werner household a few weeks ago.

I know the economy is tight and these were an unnecessary indulgence, but seriously, could they be more personalized and/or adorable?

One of my biggest random pet peeves is writing out my address on the bills/letters I send out (and I’ve yet to fully go online after a bad experience where a scheduled payment wasn’t received and cost me a $20 late charge … grr). For the longest time, I got by using the catch-all labels we’d get from charities asking us for donations. I honestly thought I’d NEVER run out of those, but when I did, I decided to indulge and found this Web site that let me have some fun with the purchase — Nick even got in on the personalizing effort, picking his hairstyle and helping me find a perfect Daisy!

Did I need to buy these? Absolutely not. But do they make me smile with every letter (bills, even) that I send out? You betcha. Now who wants a letter from Gail to see ‘em in person?  :)

(Just a note: This was shot on the macro setting of my point-and-shoot. Nothing fancy going on here, just wanted to share ‘em!)

Keep that album in mind

God forbid it ever happen, but in the event Nick and I’s house should catch on fire, next to getting the two of us and our dog out of there, I’d brave a burnt eyebrow or two to grab my wedding album before hitting the door.

We live in a digital era and I respect my clients’ desires to get their images from me on a CD. But we also need to acknowledge that today’s technology is dated before it comes out of the box, overshadowed by the next greatest improvement in all things gadgety. In this era of digital disposal, few items carry with them any permanence. And that’s why I believe albums (be they of your wedding or your family memories) are SOOO worth the investment. In my mind, they are possibly the last remaining heirloom.

I remember getting Nick and I’s wedding album. I was giddy over its pages for days and couldn’t wait to show it to my family and friends. Now I look forward to the day I can pass it down to my children and hear what they have to say about the way we looked on that magical day. Sure I could do the same thing with our wedding photographs, but there’s no sure bet I’ll have all those photos in one place and if I had them on a CD, who KNOWS what kind of technology we’d be using 30 years from now (we’ll probably all have chips in our arms! ha!).

These feelings are all what have me SO excited to introduce my album line for 2009. Each album is custom designed by me, with images that best tell the story of your special day. I used my friend Tracy’s wedding for my sample album displayed below. For a full peek at the album’s contents, CHECK OUT THE SLIDESHOW.

Bigger is better …

Ahem … now that I have all of your attention with THAT headline, I just wanted to take a minute to show off one of the fantastic products I have available to clients. They’re called stand-out prints and as you can see from the product images below, they let you take that special image of your family member and go bigger.

Because, really, folks, when it comes to showing off those images of your loved ones, isn’t bigger ALWAYS better? :)

On a serious note, I’m always wanting to encourage my clients that images bigger than 8×10s really make a dramatic statement in your home. This is a 20×24 print I ordered for my brother and sister-in-law of my niece Emily. It’s from a session I did right before her birthday last summer and it’s one of my favorite images I’ve ever taken.

I hung it up on one of my walls this week, just to see what it’d look like, and truthfully, I’m a little jealous I’m going to have to pack it up and send it on its way. But I’m really excited for my sibling — he’s got a new house with a lot of blank walls and thankfully he’s got a sister whose more than happy to keep filling them up with pictures of his family.

If you’re interested in stand-out prints from your session with me — or a future session! — e-mail me at gailwernerphotography@gmail.com for pricing details.

standout-3-of-1

I took this image solely to show what kind of edging a stand-out print has. These are VERY light (so that you don’t have to hear your husband cursing you under his breath as he drills an anchor into the wall — oh wait, does that only happen in my household? :) ) and since they come with a finished edge that’s either 3/4 or 1 1/2 inch thick, you don’t have to worry about framing.

As someone who has spent a wad of her birthday cash framing prints for her dining room as of late, I promise you that a stand-out gives you MORE FOR YOUR BUCK.

And for the fellas who may pop over to this blog on occasion, I know of no better gift for your wife this Mother’s Day (it’s a hint people — and definitely not a subtle one)
